Christopher Medeiros, General Manager, Retail Data Systems - Hospitality
Describe your work philosophy in one sentence.
Work hard and do the right thing for the right reason, just because!
What unique problem does your company solve for restaurants?
Ohh where to start. Let's put this into a real-life example. A CPA loves his local pizza restaurant so much, he buys it because "it's a restaurant how hard could it be to run a restaurant?!" Then comes the culture shock of not only permits, health board, food handling, Serve Safe certifications, managing employees, but also the IT side of things such as the POS System, EMV, PCI compliance, firewalls, online ordering, loyalty, inventory, scheduling, payroll integrations, third-party delivery, etc. The CPA has now learned how they can hire a manager to run the day-to-day and they themselves do the numbers. However, the IT has surpassed their knowledge base. So, they have several options. Hire a person to work with all the companies and manage the restaurant IT or hire RDS-Hospitality and call one support number for all your restaurant IT needs. We can stage it all, test it all, and, depending on the product/agreements, do level 1,2, or 3 support for it all. Ask around “WE DO THAT!”
Why did your company join RTN?
The Industry has a vast amount of knowledge that's seldom being shared. Our day-to-days are so busy, we rarely get a chance to sit and just talk shop outside of our customer (whomever they might be). Having specific topics that I can pick and choose to be a part of works great with my schedule. I find that I’m the leader in some and others the student. It is a great benefit when you can have both aspects of teacher to student in one environment.
What's your favorite personal past-time?
I know this sound corny but it really is spending time with family and watching my kids grow from fumbling weirdos to well rounded mini adults!
What three words would you use to describe what's happening in the restaurant industry right now?
Costly, confusion, & depersonalized.
What's your favorite restaurant?
The Cheesecake Factory has a special place in my heart. After working with them for years, having a culinary arts degree, and watching the scratch kitchens perform, and loving the vast variety of food you can get in one place, and don't forget the Cheesecakes!!
What's your most-used restaurant app?
All of them, I don't have any on my phone and don't know anyone who does. Sorry everyone!
Restaurateur you most admire & why.
Again it would be The Cheesecake Factory! Doing an AUV of over $10M+ like clockwork with a full scratch kitchen. Impressive!
What technology are you most excited about for the future of restaurants?
I'm in the opposed few that would like to see less technology and more customer service. What happened to taking orders, getting them to the kitchen, serving guests with a bright smile and a warm heart. If you have good food, great customer service and a stable PCI compliant point-of-sale system, what else do you really need?
